New cases of stomach cancer are set to plummet a further 25 per cent in the West over the next decade, indicates research published ahead of print in the journal Gut .
Catalan researchers have studied the acquisition and development of language in babies on the basis of the temporary coordination of gestures and speech. The results are the first in showing how and when they acquire the pattern of coordination between the two elements which allows them to communicate very early on.
Kidney stones rank among the most common illnesses. Their recurrence might be prevented with the right postoperative care. However, for this to be effective, composition of the stones should be known. Fraunhofer researchers are developing a system for rapid analysis of urinary stones immediately after the surgical procedure.
The Dispensary of Hope, a Nashville-based not-for-profit social venture, is pleased to announce that seven new sites across the nation have been added to the Dispensary network, bringing the total number of sites to almost eighty. Apart from Tennessee, the locations of new sites include Pennsylvania, Michigan, Louisiana and Alabama, widening the scope of the Dispensary and providing opportunities to many different communities.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the WHO's cancer arm, on Tuesday announced it has reclassified diesel engine exhaust from "probably carcinogenic" to "carcinogenic," the U.N. News Centre reports, noting the decision came "after a week-long meeting of international experts, and the agency based its decision on sufficient evidence that exposure is associated with an increased risk for lung cancer."
