North Shore InnoVentures, one of New England's leading technology incubators and business accelerators, announced today that it has received a capital grant of $1.65 million from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center.
Scholars from the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics will meet with Hollywood producers, writers and directors this week to discuss timely bioethics issues and answer questions, in hopes that the dialogue will lead to the incorporation of accurate depictions of bioethics in film and television, and greater public understanding of the issues in general.
Steve Larson, who oversees the office at the Department of Health and Human Services that includes planning for the exchanges, will join forces with another HHS official to take on this effort. Meanwhile, KHN's Julie Appleby provides an exchanges primer and from Minnesota, an update on the state's progress.
The parasite responsible for a form of malaria now spreading from macaques to humans in South Asia could evolve to infect humans more efficiently, a step towards enhanced transmission between humans, according to a new study from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The researchers say that defining the means by which the Plasmodium knowlesi parasite invades red blood cells could lead to interventions to prevent the emergence of the zoonosis into the human population.
