US HIFU, a worldwide leader in the development, distribution and use of minimally invasive high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technologies, announced today its exclusive partnership with Riverside Research Institute (RRI) to develop and test an ultrasonic method of prostate imaging and treatment that combines advanced tissue-type imaging with ultrasound energy from the Sonablate® 500 medical device.
Today, at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) in Philadelphia, a group of researchers from Stanford University will describe the latest developments toward their goal of integrating two existing medical devices - medical linear accelerators, or "linacs," which produce powerful X-rays for treating cancer, and magnetic resonance imagers (MRIs), which are widely used to image tumors in the human body.
Older adults whose vision is affected by declining contrast sensitivity - which is a factor in the ability to detect and resolve details in low light - can improve their ability to see with perceptual learning training, according to researchers at the University of California, Riverside and Brown University.
A technology whose roots date to the 1800s has the potential to offer an extraordinary new advantage to modern-day medicine.
