People with diabetes mellitus who undergo heart bypass surgery for multiple blocked arteries have a significantly better 5-year-survival rate than diabetic patients who undergo angioplasty with drug-eluting stents (DES), according to a study published in the November 2012 issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
Mylan Inc. today confirmed that it and Famy Care Ltd. have been sued by Warner Chilcott Company LLP, in connection with the filing of an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Norethindrone and Ethinyl Estradiol Chewable Tablets, 0.8 mg/0.025 mg and Ferrous Fumarate Chewable Tablets. This product is the generic version of Generess Fe, a 28-day regimen indicated for use by women to prevent pregnancy.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said that a new test that can detect tuberculosis (TB), including drug-resistant forms, in less than two hours could revolutionize treatment of the disease. Tuberculosis is still a major killer worldwide killing 4,700 people every day last year. The annual death toll of 1.7 million includes 380,000 people who are at particular risk because they have HIV, the virus that depresses the immune system and causes Aids.
In his third major research paper since December 2013, IST Austria Professor Peter Jonas together with his collaborator, postdoc Hua Hu, identifies a new subcellular mechanism for reliable, fast transmission in the so-called basket cells of the brain.
A team from Hybridyne Imaging Technologies, Inc., and the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory was among over 90 top technology innovators from across the nation and around the world competing in Arlington, Texas, March 16-17, for top honors at the WBT2010 showcase presented by Lockheed Martin.
