Technology to restore vision through the use of a component of green algae developed by Dr. Zhou-Han Pan, professor and scientific director of the Ligon Research Center of Vision at the Kresge Eye Institute at Wayne State University, and licensed to RetroSense Therapeutics, a biotechnology company dedicated to developing gene therapy approaches to vision restoration, announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a Notice of Allowance for U.S. patent application (No. 12/299,574).
The Society of Toxicology (SOT) 51st Annual Meeting and ToxExpo - the largest meeting and expo of its kind anywhere in the world - will take place from March 11-15. The five-day program will feature more than 180 sessions, presenting the latest research findings and recommendations for remedial action on a wide range of issues affecting human and animal health and the environment.
A new study from the University of Alberta demonstrated that the blood clotting protein called fibrinogen also regulates MMP-2, an enzyme involved in immunity and in clot formation inside blood vessels. Prolonged MMP-2 inhibition could potentially produce a deficiency state with severe consequences.
