World number 1 Andy Murray has become the star of a new animation which is inviting young scots to enrol in an exciting new challenge that aims to identify ways of managing young peoples' health, fitness and wellbeing, using technology.
Almost 60 percent of women of childbearing age in the United States are overweight or obese. Obesity is a major public health issue, and has been linked to health problems like heart disease, cancer and hypertension. It can complicate pregnancy by increasing the mother's risk of having gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, preterm birth or a baby with birth defects. Maternal obesity is also linked to several adverse health outcomes for the infant that can persist into adulthood, such as type-2 diabetes, heart disease and mortality.
The ‘weekend effect' – that patients admitted to hospital over the weekend are at an increased risk of death – overshadows a much more complex pattern of weekly changes in quality of care, which are unlikely to be addressed by simply increasing the availability of hospital doctors on Saturdays and Sundays, according to two new studies published in The Lancet.
State Medicaid programs - including both managed care contracts and new copay proposals - are making news in Ohio, California, Florida and Arizona.
XenoPort, Inc. announced today that it has initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial of XP23829, its proprietary investigational next-generation fumaric acid product candidate. The trial is a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study designed to assess the efficacy and safety of XP23829 as a potential treatment of patients with moderate-to-severe chronic plaque-type psoriasis.
