Parents educated beyond high school invest more in family health care, reducing the likelihood of adverse medical conditions despite differences in family income and health insurance, according to a recent Rutgers study that appeared in the Southern Economic Journal.
Synageva BioPharma Corp., a privately held biopharmaceutical company developing therapeutic products for rare disorders, announced today that their lead program, SBC-102, an enzyme replacement therapy for Lysosomal Acid Lipase (LAL) Deficiency, currently in clinical trials, has been granted fast track designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Ashkenazi Jewish women are known to have a predisposition to the inherited breast cancers BRCA1 and BRCA2, but currently genetic testing in this group is limited to women affected by breast and ovarian cancers and those who are unaffected but have a family history of the disease.
About three-fourths of children who are diagnosed with autism at age 2 years appear to have the condition at age 9 years, according to a report in the June issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.
