A group of tests may help predict which people with Parkinson's disease are more likely to fall, according to a study published in the June 23, 2010, online issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology.
Immigration officials held a cancer patient for four hours before they allowed him to enter the USA because one of his cancer drugs caused his fingerprints to disappear. His oncologist is now advising all cancer patients who are being treated with the commonly used drug, capecitabine, to carry a doctor's letter with them if they want to travel to the USA.
Preclinical trials indicate that a drug candidate called OxaliTex can stop the growth of cancer cells completely. OxaliTex appears to be more potent than many other common chemotherapy drugs, with less toxicity and less rapidly counteracted by mechanisms of drug resistance. The study was reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in March 2020.
Bioethicists at the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics are co-authors on a consensus article placing "significant responsibility" on biobanks to report individual research results (IRRs) and incidental findings (IFs) to the contributors of genetic material.
