Occlutech GmbH, the leading European developer of minimally invasive implants for the treatment of structural heart disease, today announced receiving a favourable appeal court ruling from The Hague, The Netherlands in the on-going patent litigation with AGA Medical. A favourable first instance court ruling obtained by Occlutech had been appealed by AGA in 2008.
One-fifth of American women ages 50 to 74 have fallen behind on mammography screenings for breast cancer, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are reporting. Although the percentage of women in this age group who get a regular breast cancer screening every two years increased steadily during the 1990s, the rate has remained just over 80 percent since 2000, according to the centers' Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
Scientists are reporting discovery of a way to help proteins such as the new generation of protein-based drugs - sometimes heralded as tomorrow's potential "miracle cures" - get past the biochemical "Entrance Forbidden" barrier that keeps them from entering cells and doing their work. The new technique, described in the monthly journal, ACS Chemical Biology, represents a new use for an engineered form of green fluorescent protein, the topic of the 2008 Nobel Prize in Chemistry that is one of the most important research tools in biosciences.
More than half of U.S. hospitals are capacity constrained and unable to add patients without facility expansion or extended hours. GE Healthcare and Moffitt Cancer Center announced an alliance aimed to optimize efficiency and care capacity, and in less than eight months Moffitt has added capacity for 900 new cancer procedures and additional operating margin.
