The Denver Post: "When nurse practitioner Mary Lou Hendrix opened her own high-risk-pregnancy practice in Evergreen and Cherry Creek last spring after more than 25 years of providing such care in physicians' offices, she was well-prepared for the medical challenges she would face. But she was not ready for the still-unresolved nightmare of trying to get recognized and reimbursed by insurance companies.
Anita Willis says the social worker offered her a painful choice: She could either leave the San Jose, Calif., nursing home where she'd spent a month recovering from a stroke — or come up with $336 a day to stay on.
Apremilast, an orally available small molecule modulating several inflammatory pathways, which is pending approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration, is showing promise in the treatment of mouth and genital ulcers in people with Behcet's syndrome, according to research presented this week at the American College of Rheumatology Annual Scientific Meeting in San Diego.
Quality measures announced today by the Core Quality Measures Collaborative represent a step forward in reducing paperwork and confusion while also allowing providers to focus on measures that impact patient outcomes, the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA) said in support of implementation of the proposed cardiovascular measures. But the groups expressed reservations about blood pressure targets included in the measures.
The Sensory Research Center (SRC) held its first benefit, dessert and silent auction concert featuring LA Collaboration on the last week of August 2009. SRC Founder, Jennifer Hoffiz, said, "The concert was well attended and the talent of the performers was absolutely amazing. The concert and the silent auction allow SRC to offer 3 or 4 scholarships for children, whose parents/grandparents simply can not afford the neurosensory program, to receive this much needed therapy." One grandparent, Juanita Torres, who takes care of her twin autistic grandchildren, shared what it would mean to their family to receive a scholarship.
