The spread of breast cancer is responsible for more than 90 percent of breast cancer deaths. Now, the process by which it spreads—or metastasizes—has been unraveled by researchers at Johns Hopkins. Reporting in two papers, the researchers have discovered the switch that enables breast cancer cells to travel to and be received in the lungs.
Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies today announced that Biosense Webster, Inc., a worldwide leader in the diagnosis and treatment of heart arrhythmias, enrolled the first patient in the WaveCrest Investigational Device Exemption Trial.
In 2012, the public healthcare sector in Australia was more than twice the size of the private healthcare sector in terms of hospital beds and total hospital expenditure. While private healthcare and other small to medium medical facilities do provide facilities management opportunities, it is mostly to small and medium FM companies. The larger and well-established FM providers will mostly come into play with the successful implementation of public private partnerships model in the healthcare sector.
Over one-third of the world's population already lives in areas struggling to keep up with the demand for fresh water. By 2025, that number will nearly double.
Could a few pinpricks make someone thinner. Evidence weighs heavily in favor of that proposition, according to the results of a new study to be presented at the Pacific Symposium in San Diego this week. The groundbreaking study, "The Effects of Acupuncture on Weight-Loss in Over-Weight and Obese Adults Over 24 Years Old," reports that 95 percent of its subjects lost weight in a six-week period after receiving regular acupuncture treatments. Of those subjects, another 50 percent continued to lose weight after treatments stopped.
