In the first study in the Arab world to document mental illness and treatment on a national level, researchers from Lebanon have described the prevalence of mental disorders and their relation to exposure to war.
For decades, scientists have thought the faulty neural wiring that predisposes individuals to behavioral disorders like autism and psychiatric diseases like schizophrenia must occur during development. Even so, no one has ever shown that a risk gene for the disease actually disrupts brain development.
Some 35 neuromuscular disease experts, along with biotechnology and government representatives, will meet Friday and Saturday at the Westin La Paloma here to develop a large-scale network to test potential treatments in muscular dystrophy
