Detecting brain tumors at the earliest possible stage and eliminating them before seizures begin might be possible one day, according to research by scientists at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital.
BioTek's Cytation™3 Cell Imaging Multi-Mode Reader was recently honored with the first annual New Product Innovation Award, given by MipTec organizers at the 2013 MipTec Conference & Exhibition in Basel, Switzerland. Cytation3 was one of three winning products announced at the exhibition on September 25, 2013.
MAXIMUS, a leading provider of government services worldwide, announced today that it has signed a new contract with the West Virginia Offices of the Insurance Commissioner to develop, manage and maintain an In-Person Assister program to support the state's health insurance marketplace. The $4.5 million contract began on July 15, 2013 and will run through July 15, 2014.
A particular human gene variant makes breast cancer cells more aggressive. Not only are these more resistant to chemotherapy but also leave the primary tumour and establish themselves in other parts of the body in the form of metastases. An international group of researchers led by Lukas Kenner of MedUni Vienna has now identified a gene, AF1q, as being substantially responsible for this and recognized it as a possible starting point for more accurate diagnosis and potential targeted therapeutic approaches.
Additional research is needed before laser therapy can be recommended as a treatment for acne, according to a study in the June 16 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
