The Valley Hospital, an acute care, not-for-profit hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey is enhancing pre-hospital emergency care with the use of Twiage, a mobile app that lets first responders instantly communicate with the emergency room.
McGill University Hospital Centre in Montréal, Canada, has ordered 95 TotalExam2 Examination Cameras from Scottsdale, Arizona-based GlobalMed for its telemedicine program in the province of Québec. GlobalMed, the industry leader in telemedicine design, manufacturing and marketing, developed TotalExam to deliver crystal clear digital close-ups of the skin, eyes and throat.
A new practice code for pharmaceutical companies now covers all interactions with health care professionals and bans them from giving payments to doctors to attend conferences.
Following knee surgery, fear of pain and reinjury can inhibit recovery. Patients who experience chronic pain and disability may avoid physical activity and develop deconditioning syndrome—decreased muscle strength and range of motion, and even weakness of the cardiovascular system. Surface electromyography (SEMG) biofeedback training, in conjunction with rehabilitation efforts, can assist the postoperative recovery process by helping patients reduce or overcome muscle inhibition.
A survey of men age 40 to 74 found that 54 percent said that they would still opt for a popular prostate cancer screening test despite recent recommendations that the test not be performed, finds a new study in American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Only 13 percent said they would choose not to be tested.
