Researchers from Tufts University School of Medicine and the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences have identified a possible topical treatment for age-related macular degeneration in a study of mice that shows promise for clinical use.
David Williams is the first human being ever to have a new radiation treatment implanted in the center of his brain tumor.
Because billions of neurons are packed into our brain, the neuronal circuits that are responsible for controlling our behaviors are by necessity highly intermingled. This tangled web makes it complicated for scientists to determine exactly which circuits do what. Now, using two laboratory techniques pioneered in part at Caltech, Caltech researchers have mapped out the pathways of a set of neurons responsible for the kinds of motor impairments-such as difficulty walking-found in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Optical microangiography (OMAG), a technique based on optical coherence tomography, can be used to visualize the microvasculature network under inflamed skin condition. It opens up new vistas for clinical trials of treatment and diagnosis of inflammatory skin disorders.
Most of the DNA in the nucleus of each of our cells is converted into RNA, but only a small fraction of these RNA molecules serve as coding templates for the synthesis of proteins.
