A new strategy that cripples the ability of the dengue virus to escape the host immune system has been discovered by A*STAR's Singapore Immunology Network. This breakthrough strategy opens a door of hope to what may become the world's first universal dengue vaccine candidate that can give full protection from all four serotypes of the dreadful virus.
A new technique in which single strands of synthetic DNA are used to firmly fasten biological cells to non-biological surfaces has been developed by researchers with the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California at Berkeley.
A recent study has found that a childhood behavioral intervention to lower dietary intake of total fat and saturated fat and increase consumption of foods that are good sources of dietary fiber resulted in significantly lower fasting plasma glucose levels and lower systolic blood pressure when study participants were re-evaluated in young adulthood.
Some studies indicate that death rates from heart attacks and stroke as well as non-heart-related causes spike during the holiday season.
Acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in Aspirin®, can lower the risk of redeveloping colorectal cancer: Stage III colon cancer patients, who have undergone surgery and chemotherapy, experience less recurrence and fatalities when using Aspirin®.
