Monitoring men with very low- and low-risk prostate cancers using watchful waiting or active surveillance, called expectant management, is a useful approach for a large number of men with localized tumors and could spare them the debilitating side effects of aggressive treatments that are too often unnecessarily used in this patient population, a UCLA review of common practices in prostate cancer has found.
Following a successful Phase 1 study for safety, researchers at MassBiologics of the University of Massachusetts Medical School today announced the beginning of a Phase 2 clinical trial testing the ability of a human monoclonal antibody they developed to prevent hepatitis C virus infection of a donor liver in transplant patients.
The Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has received a five-year, $3.8 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to fund research that will address the challenge of achieving long-term weight loss among patients with obesity cared for at primary care practices.
