Zosano Pharma, Inc., a privately held pharmaceutical company developing products using a novel transdermal delivery technology, announced publication in the current issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism of results from a positive phase 2 study of its rapid-delivery transdermal patch (ZP-PTH) for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
It was once thought that effects of a mild head injury - dizziness, headaches, memory problems - were only temporary, and the brain would heal over time. However, while the long-term consequences of head trauma are not fully known, growing evidence suggests that even a mild head injury can increase the risk for later-in-life development of dementias such as Alzheimer's disease.
Although more than 425,000 women suffer from stroke each year, 55,000 more than men, a new survey showed that women may be dramatically underestimating their risk of this medical emergency, the third leading cause of death in the United States. Only 27 percent of women who were surveyed could name more than two of the six primary stroke symptoms. Moreover, seven out of 10 women who were surveyed said they are not aware they are more likely than men to have a stroke, and were not at all or only somewhat knowledgeable about risk factors.
As the summer draws to a close, it's time to start putting away flip-flops, bathing suits and beach bags. But as the seasonal supplies disappear into the back of the closet, sunscreen should stay within arm's reach for year-round protection against the sun's ultraviolet rays.
