Study shows significant decrease in use of antidepressants by pregnant women

A pregnancy is not always a happy event and as many as 10-15 per cent of pregnant women in Denmark have depressive symptoms. Despite years of critical focus on the side effects of antidepressants in the healthcare system, consumption of antidepressants by pregnant women actually increased drastically during the period 1997 to 2011.

Teenagers being bombarded by alchohol advertising

Alcohol advertising on television, and youth exposure to it, grew substantially in 2002 from 2001, and although new industry marketing codes were announced in 2003, they will still allow for substantial youth overexposure to alcohol ads, according to a study released today by the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth at Georgetown University.

Walter and Eliza Hall Institute receives $2.5 million grant to support cancer research

Australian cancer researchers will gain access to first-in-Australia technology through new funding from Australian Cancer Research Foundation to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. The $2.5 million grant will allow the establishment of the ACRF Breakthrough Technologies Laboratory, providing new insights into how cancer develops, and how it can be more effectively treated. The laboratory is one of four initiatives announced by ACRF last night.
