Common food additive lecithin may help control blood lipids and reduce disease risk

Scientists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified a substance in the liver that helps process fat and glucose. That substance is a component of the common food additive lecithin, and researchers speculate it may one day be possible to use lecithin products to control blood lipids and reduce risk for diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular disease using treatments delivered in food rather than medication.

Teledermatology improves access to care, reduces consult time

A new study from researchers in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Independence Blue Cross shows that when patients' primary care doctors were able to photograph areas of concern and share them with dermatologists, the response time for a consultation dropped from almost 84 days to under five hours.

FDA recommends approval for UI Pharmaceuticals to manufacture an aseptically filled sterile drug product

In September 2009, the Kansas City District Office of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) submitted a recommendation of approval to the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research for The University of Iowa Pharmaceuticals (UIP) to manufacture and test an aseptically filled, sterile prescription drug product for a commercial client. The drug product contains a new chemical entity and is a sterile solution that is aseptically filled into vials.

IDIBELL licenses a tool to Oxford Immunotec to improve efficiency of kidney transplants, prevent graft rejection

The Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute has licensed to the company Oxford Immunotec, a technology to measure the secretion of anti-HLA antibodies from memory B cells to improve the efficiency of kidney transplants and prevent rejection of graft.
