Columbia Laboratories' Board of Directors set a ratio of 1-for-8 for its reverse stock split

Columbia Laboratories, Inc. ("Columbia" or the "Company") (NasdaqCM: CBRX) announced today that its Board of Directors (the "Board") has set a ratio of 1-for-8 for its previously approved reverse stock split of its common stock, and an anticipated effective date for the reverse stock split of the later of (i) the filing with the Secretary of the State of Delaware of a certificate of amendment with respect to the reverse stock split or (ii) August 9, 2013.

U.S. smoking rates on slow decline: CDC report

Roughly 45 million adult Americans smoke and this is much lesser than the figures a few years back. Even those who still smoke have cut back on the number of cigarettes they smoke, but the rate of decline has begun to slow, U.S. health experts said on Tuesday. Smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States, killing an estimated 443,000 Americans each year.

DURECT commences dosing in its POSIDUR Phase III clinical trial

DURECT Corporation announced today that it has begun dosing patients in its U.S. pivotal Phase III clinical trial to evaluate POSIDURâ„¢ (SABERâ„¢-Bupivacaine), an investigational drug, for the treatment of post-surgical pain. The pivotal trial, referred to as BESST (Bupivacaine Effectiveness and Safety in SABER Trial), is an international, multi-center, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial evaluating the safety, efficacy, effectiveness, and pharmacokinetics of POSIDUR in patients undergoing general surgical procedures.

Weill Cornell receives NIH grant to study TB-causing bacteria

In an effort to stop tuberculosis (TB) from becoming progressively less treatable worldwide, the National Institutes of Health has awarded Weill Cornell Medical College more than $6.2 million in first-year funding to support a research collaboration among six institutions in close alliance with voluntary pharmaceutical partners.
