HQA applauds public availability of hospital quality information at Hospital Compare website

The Hospital Quality Alliance today applauded the public availability of new information on hospital quality of care at the Hospital Compare website. The HQA is a broad working group of hospitals, consumer representatives, physician and nursing organizations, employers and payers, oversight organizations and government agencies dedicated to improving health care quality and making useful and understandable information about hospital quality available to the public.

A new analysis of dietary patterns among more than 100,000 Americans suggests that frequent consumption of citrus - namely whole grapefruit and orange juice - may be associated with an increased risk of melanoma.

Frequent long-term use of cell phones may increase cancer risk

Public health concerns have been raised today about the safety of being exposed to radiofrequency (RF) radiation emitted from cell phones. A report released by the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion (OAHPP) in September 2010 was one of the studies cited as providing evidence that frequent long-term use of cell phones may be associated with an increased risk of cancer.
