With increased legalization of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes, interest is growing in the potential health effects of its secondhand smoke. A team now reports in ACS' journal Analytical Chemistry the development of a urine screening method that is sensitive enough to detect even small amounts of chemicals that result from this exposure.
Currently, there are more than 112,000 patients on the national organ transplant waiting list. These candidates often endure difficult yet necessary life-sustaining treatments while waiting for potential organ matches. Nineteen people die every day while waiting, and those that are eventually transplanted can endure wait times that can extend anywhere from 5-9 years.

Tioga Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that the company has dosed its first subject in a Phase 3 clinical trial to evaluate asimadoline for the treatment of patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (DIBS). The trial, referred to as ASMP3001, is the first of two Phase 3 trials being conducted under a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for U.S. registration. This first trial will be conducted at 120 sites in the U.S.
