Study: Delay in school start time significantly improves adolescent sleep, mood and behavior

A pilot study conducted in a small private high school confirms what many have been touting for years: the benefits of a delayed school start time. Judy Owens, MD, a sleep expert with Hasbro Children's Hospital, reports that a modest delay in school start time of only 30 minutes was associated with significant improvements in adolescent alertness, mood and health. Her findings are published in the July issue of the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.

Researchers from the University of Sydney's Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease Laboratory have achieved a major breakthrough by finding the causes of Alzheimer's disease at a cellular level and thereby identifying a potential therapy as a result.

Misbehaving docs four times likely to be men than women: Study

According to a new study male doctors are four times more likely to be disciplined for misconduct than female doctors. Most common reason for the discipline was sexual misconduct, accounting for 24 per cent of all cases say researchers. Unethical or illegal prescribing accounted for 21 per cent of misconduct cases, while 8 per cent involved death and 9 per cent involved physical harm to the patient. The study is published today in the Medical Journal of Australia.
