Scientists replace human gene to preserve photoreceptor function in retinal degeneration

The easy accessibility of the eye and the established link between specific genetic defects and ocular disorders offer hope for using gene therapy to provide long-term therapeutic benefit. Two reports in the current issue of Human Gene Therapy, a peer-reviewed journal published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., describe the effective replacement of a human gene to preserve photoreceptor function in a mouse model of severe retinal degeneration. Phenex commences Px-102 first-in-man Phase I study for Metabolic Syndrome and NAFLD

Phenex Pharmaceuticals AG announced today the start of a first-in-man Phase I study with its clinical drug candidate Px-102, a synthetic non-steroidal FXR agonist. The volunteers of the first dose level received the drug and showed no signs of discomfort or other adverse effects.

Nightingale signs over 400 EMR seats in Canada during first half of fiscal 2011

Nightingale Informatix Corporation, an application service provider (ASP) of electronic medical record (EMR) software and related services today announced that during its fiscal 2011 second quarter ended September 30, it signed agreements to deploy its Nightingale On Demand EMR and practice management solution with healthcare providers across Canada, representing more than 200 seats (A "Seat" is defined as a paying healthcare provider using Nightingale's Electronic Medical Record).
