A new smartphone app called Natural Cycles has been formally approved as a method of contraception in the European Union. The app is one of various fertility-tracking phone apps available, but Natural Cycles is the first to be formally certified as a medical device and therefore a contraceptive.
In an International Wound Journal study of 4,818 older patients undergoing elective orthopedic surgeries, five risk factors were linked with an increased risk of developing surgical site infections, including diabetes, morbid obesity, tobacco smoking, prolonged surgical duration, and lower serum albumin levels prior to surgery.

In the study, the researchers reviewed the results of nationally standardised tests in math and reading completed by more than 630,000 Danish schoolchildren in grades 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8.
