WFP says more than 1M Kenyans need food aid due to drought; India increases food distribution to deal with drought

More than 1 million Kenyans living in prolonged drought conditions are not getting the food aid they need, Gabrielle Menezes, a spokeswoman for the U.N.'s World Food Program (WFP), said recently, the Associated Press reports. HSP10 (Heat Shock Protein), helps monitor and organise protein interactions in the body, and responds to environmental stresses, such as exercise and infection, by increasing its production inside cells. Researchers at Liverpool, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of California, found that excessive amounts of HSP10 inside mitochondria - 'organs' that act as energy generators in cells - can halt the body's ageing process by preserving muscle strength.

Mothers who smoke, drink alcohol during pregnancy increase risk for SIDS 12-fold

Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), also called crib death or cot death, is the sudden and unexplained death of an infant less than one-year-old. There is no exact known cause of SIDS, but a recent study shows that mothers who smoked cigarettes and drank alcohol during pregnancy may have babies with a 12-fold increased risk of SIDS.
