An innovative patient management system at the acute stroke unit of Kelowna (BC) General Hospital has reduced the number of stroke patient bed days by more than 25 per cent, according to a study of the system presented at the annual Canadian Stroke Congress in Vancouver.
Researchers at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania have put sleeplessness on the map - literally. The research team, analyzing nationwide data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has produced the first state-by-state sleep maps for the United States, revealing that residents of Southern states suffer from the most sleep disturbances and daytime fatigue, while residents on the West Coast report the least amount of problems.
Affymetrix, Inc. today announced that it will contribute genotyping data for a large set of validated rare and common genomic variants to the 1000 Genomes Project. This powerful data consists of genotyping information from more than 2 million single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and insertions/deletions (indels), many of which were not previously available from any source.
