Amongst the many priorities spelled out in the healthcare reform law, one is that hospitals will need to find ways to forge closer relationships with patients. Corventis, Inc., a developer of wireless cardiovascular solutions, announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its NUVANT™ Mobile Cardiac Telemetry (MCT) System for the detection of non-lethal arrhythmias. In addition, the company announced that its Monitoring Center has been approved by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) as an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF). Corventis has also received approval to bill for services provided to patients with Medicare and several commercial insurers, paving the way for the NUVANT MCT System to be available across the United States.
Green Cross Corporation, a South Korean biopharmaceutical company, announced today that South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved GCFLU QUADRIVALENT (Influenza Virus Vaccine) for immunisation of adults to help prevent disease caused by seasonal influenza (flu) virus subtype A and B. GCFlu Quadrivalent is the first locally-manufactured vaccine to cover against four influenza strains.
Johns Hopkins surgeons report they have devised a better, safer method to replace bone removed from the skull after lifesaving brain surgery. The new technique, they say, appears to result in fewer complications than standard restoration, which has changed little since its development in the 1890s.
