Researchers develop first non-human primate X-SCID models using genome editing techniques

Researchers affiliated with the Kawasaki INnovation Gateway at SKYFRONT, have successfully generated the first ever non-human primate X-SCID models by using two genome editing techniques. The findings were published in Cell Stem Cell, July 2016.

CVS settles with NY over expired product sales; NC gets high-risk pool payment help

New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday that CVS, the drug story chain, has agreed to pay $875,000 to settle charges that it sold products years after their expiration dates, Reuters reports. The out-dated products, sold at 142 different stores, included "over-the-counter drugs, baby formula, eggs and milk," and in some cases items were sold more than two years after expiring (Stempel, 11/10).

Researchers evaluate use of regenerative human umbilical cord for in-utero spina bifida repair

In a study to be presented Saturday, Jan. 28, in the oral concurrent session at 8:45 a.m. PST, at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine's annual meeting, The Pregnancy Meeting, researchers evaluated a possible regenerative patch by using human umbilical cord in two studies titled Cryopreserved Human Umbilical Cord (HUC) vs Acellular Dermal Matrix (ADM) for In-Utero Spina Bifida Repair and the study Conventional vs cryopreserved human umbilical cord (HUC) patch based on repair for in-utero spina bifida in a sheep model.

Software for screening adulterated raw milk

FOSS has extended the availability of software functionality that helps to spot adulterated raw milk. The software allows MilkoScan(TM) analysers based on Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) technology to be programmed to give a warning of possible abnormalities in raw milk samples. MilkoScan instruments are already used around the world to check milk for payment and quality assurance purposes.
