New research presented this week at ACR Convergence, the American College of Rheumatology's annual meeting, shows that people with difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis who do not have success with one Janus kinase inhibitor (JAK inhibitor) can achieve success either cycling to other JAKi medications or switching to a biologic drug.
ARCA biopharma, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company developing genetically-targeted therapies for cardiovascular diseases, today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Medtronic, Inc., a leader in medical technologies to improve the treatment of chronic diseases, including cardiac rhythm disorders, to collaborate on ARCA's proposed clinical trial, known as GENETIC-AF, of its lead developmental drug Gencaro (bucindolol hydrochloride).
A Brigham and Women's Hospital-led team has identified a long sought-after partner for a key immune protein, called TIM-3, that helps explain its two-faced role in the immune system - sometimes dampening it, other times stimulating it. This newly identified partner not only sheds light on the inner workings of the immune system in diseases such as HIV, autoimmunity, and cancer, but also provides a critical path toward the development of novel treatments that target TIM-3.
A final analysis of the Phase 3 COU-AA-302 trial presented today at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2014 Congress in Madrid, Spain showed that ZYTIGA® (abiraterone acetate) plus prednisone significantly prolonged overall survival (OS), compared to an active control of placebo plus prednisone, in men with chemotherapy-naive metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC).
