Landec second quarter revenues increase 16% to $81.6 million

Landec Corporation, today reported results for the second quarter and first half of fiscal year 2012. Revenues for the second quarter of fiscal year 2012 increased 16% to $81.6 million compared to revenues of $70.2 million for the second quarter of fiscal year 2011.

UBC earns high ratings in 2010 late phase market dynamics survey

United BioSource Corporation (UBC) today announced results from an independent survey that examined late phase product development services delivered by 34 contract research organizations and other scientific and medical affairs companies serving the biopharmaceutical industry. The report, titled 2010 Late Phase Market Dynamics and published by Industry Standard Research (ISR), provided data and analysis from a survey that captured information from 149 respondents, representing 95 companies.

States worry Congress may not provide extra Medicaid funding; AARP steps in to advocate for the cause

"New York's budget took another blow on Monday, as Congress pulled away from providing more than $1 billion in expected health-care funding. If the money doesn't show up soon, officials warn, there will be layoffs. Senate aides said Monday that a measure to extend unemployment benefits is likely to pass this week, but won't include the extra Medicaid money that Gov. David Paterson and Mayor Michael Bloomberg had been seeking to plug budget holes. In previous versions of the bill, the money had been included along with unemployment benefits."

Patients without advance care plans more likely to die

Researchers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle found only half of patients undergoing stem cell transplantation had advance care plans - documents such as living wills, power of attorney for health care, or life-support instructions - and those without plans were three times more likely to die during or after surgery.
