In this work, Dr. Diana and fellow researchers propose a low cost technique able to produce microfluidic devices for biomedical applications. The most common technique to fabricate biomedical microdevices is soft-lithography. However, it is a costly and time-consuming technique. Progress in manufacturing milling tools smaller than 100 µm, has enabled the use of micromilling machines to fabricate microfluidic devices capable of performing cell separation.
bioTheranostics, a bioMerieux company that develops innovative oncology diagnostic tests to drive personalized treatment, reported today findings from clinical studies utilizing the company's CancerTYPE ID® and Breast Cancer Index® molecular oncology tests. Data from the studies were presented this week at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2010 Annual Meeting in Chicago.
A new study led by researchers at Boston Medical Center indicates that variations in opioid receptor genes are associated with more severe neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) in newborn babies. The findings, published online in Drug & Alcohol Dependence, could help lead to the development of individualized treatment plans tailored to each infants' risk of requiring medication to curb their NAS symptoms, which could help improve these patients' outcomes and reduce how long some stay in the hospital.
