Colorectal cancer and preventative screening legislation in the US

Even though colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, only 18 US states have enacted legislation requiring insurance providers to cover the cost of preventative screening. These findings from the 2004 Colorectal Cancer Legislation Report Card were released today by the Entertainment Industry Foundation's National Colorectal Cancer Research Alliance (EIF's NCCRA) and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).

Study: Combined medications may improve smoking cessation than single drug therapy

Among cigarette smokers, combining the smoking cessation medications varenicline and bupropion, compared with varenicline alone, resulted in higher smoking abstinence rates for one outcome but not the other at three and six months; rates were similar at one year, according to a Mayo Clinic study published this month in JAMA.

Low dose aspirin dosages trigger the body to generate its own anti-inflammatory compounds

Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) and colleagues have demonstrated for the first time in humans in a randomized clinical trial that low-dose aspirin - dosages equivalent to one baby aspirin (81 mg) - trigger the body to generate its own anti-inflammatory compounds that help fight unwanted inflammation.
