Scientists gauge pain in premature babies

Scientists at UCL (University College London) have measured responses to pain in the brains of premature babies and have shown that they are likely to experience ‘true' pain rather than simply displaying reflex reactions.

Lack of grey matter linked to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

A research study led by scientists from the Gregorio Marañón University Hospital in Madrid and the Network of Centres for Biomedical Research in Mental Health Networks (CIBERSAM) shows that adolescents experiencing a first outbreak of psychosis have lower levels of grey matter in their brains than healthy teenagers. Strangely, this change was seen in patients suffering from various psychoses, including bipolar illness and schizophrenia.

Fat shaming celebrities may make women more judgemental about being overweight

A new study has shown that celebrity fat-shaming leads to an adverse reaction among general women towards people who are overweight. The study titled, "Shaping the Body Politic: Mass Media Fat-Shaming Affects Implicit Anti-Fat Attitudes," was published in the latest issue of the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin.
