Prescription drug misuse and driving after using drugs on the rise among Ontario students

Alcohol consumption and smoking among Ontario students in grades 7-12 is at an all-time low; however recreational use of over-the-counter drugs is on the rise. Prescription drug misuse and driving after using drugs also remain elevated according to the 2013 Ontario Student Drug Use and Health Survey released by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Repros commences randomization in Androxal Phase II study in T2DM men with low testosterone

Repros Therapeutics Inc. today announced it has commenced randomization of subjects into its Phase II Androxal® study in the treatment of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in men with low testosterone. Low testosterone and T2DM are co-morbid conditions in a significant number of men. The study is being conducted at nine sites across the US including both academic and private practices and will enroll up to 150 patients.

Many patients may benefit from day 5 embryo biopsy

Over the last several years Carolina Conceptions has been offering embryo biopsy to rule out chromosomal abnormalities and genetic diseases in future pregnancies. One of the downsides of the technique was that biopsies were performed after 3 days of embryo culture, which was later discovered to limit the ability of the embryo to undergo normal development. This actually reduced the chance of pregnancy, often erasing any advantage that was provided by the biopsy procedure.
