IRSF announces first 2010 ANGEL Grant for testing potential Rett Syndrome therapies

Today, the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) announced that it will commit $446,000 in 2010 to fund a large translational research program to test potential therapeutics for Rett Syndrome in mouse models of the disease. The funds will be awarded through the IRSF's new Advanced Neurotherapeutic Grant of Excellence (ANGEL) mechanism which seeks to provide funds for translational research. IRSF is the world's largest private source of Rett syndrome research funding, supporting nearly $21 million in research programs to date. This is the first ANGEL Grant supported by IRSF in 2010.

Researchers are developing 3D structural-sensing robots to handle healthcare tasks

Robots that could take on basic healthcare tasks to support the work of doctors and nurses may be the way of the future. Who knows, maybe a medical robot can prescribe your medicine someday? That's the idea behind 3D structural-sensing robots being developed and tested at Simon Fraser University by Woo Soo Kim, associate professor in the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering.

New precise 3D scanner provides image in 12 seconds

Reliable and highly accurate raw data is needed to use 3D images of a person or object, for example for body measurement. The VITUS smart body scanner from VITRONIC generates an accurate 3D image during a scan of only 12 seconds. VITRONIC will present the VITUS smart body scanner at the 3D Body Scanning Technologies Asian Workshop in Tokyo, Japan.
