Fish oil diet modifies gut bacteria to boost health

Diets rich in fish oil versus diets rich in lard produce very different bacteria in the guts of mice, reports a study from Sahlgrenska Academy published in Cell Metabolism. The researchers transferred these microbes into other mice to see how they affected health. The results suggest that gut bacteria share some of the responsibility for the beneficial effects of fish oil and the harmful effects of lard.

Tree Top enters Letter of Intent with WorldWithoutBlindness

Recently Tree Top, entered into a Letter of Intent with WorldWithoutBlindness, LLC, ("WWB"), a not-for-profit medical corporation whose expressed mission is "to prevent blindness through screening and early disease detection, patient information, physician education and vision science research." During due diligence, Tree Top's management, along with WWB related medical staff, identified that more work needed to be done to successfully implement WWB's business model.

Researchers identify several gene mutations responsible for medulloblastoma

Researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital have identified several gene mutations responsible for the most common childhood brain tumor, called medulloblastoma, adding evidence to the theory that the diagnosis is a group of genetically distinct cancers with different prognoses. These and accompanying findings are likely to lead to less-toxic, better-targeted treatment approaches over the next two years, the researchers said.

Novel heart attack treatment results presented at premier USA cardiology forum

Regenerative medicine company Mesoblast Limited (ASX:MSB; USADR:MBLTY) has announced that positive preclinical trial results were presented at the American Heart Association's annual conference in Chicago showing that the company's proprietary "off-the-shelf" stem cells can be injected simply, safely, and effectively into the coronary arteries after a heart attack to prevent heart failure.
