I spoke with Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman on Tuesday evening, just as he was putting the finishing touches on his economic plan, which he announced Wednesday. Some excerpts from our conversation: "I embrace the Ryan plan. The content there is basically going to drive me forward in terms of debt and spending and how we get this country to 19 percent of GDP in health care spending as opposed to 23 percent. That is the model I would work from. I like what it advocates for Medicaid. I like what it talks about in terms of Medicare.
Beckman Coulter has launched two automated systems in the UK to ease rapidly increasing workloads in microbiology and virology departments. The DxN VERIS Molecular Diagnostics system, for same-day molecular viral load testing, and the MicroScan Microbiology Systems for microorganism identification (ID) and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST), both rapidly and accurately identify therapeutic pathways for patient management.
Promising results from Phase II clinical trials and important biological advances in diagnosis and prognosis will be presented here, at the conference on Molecular Origins of Lung Cancer from Jan. 11-14, 2010. This conference is jointly sponsored by the AACR and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer.
A new theory of how cancer works could lead to the next generation of treatments of the disease. The theory suggests that cancer forms when recently evolved genes are damaged, and cells have to revert to using older, inappropriate genetic pathways.
Colorado's governor says the state will continue to build its insurance exchange and to advance other elements of the health law regardless of the Supreme Court's ruling. Meanwhile, Alabama's attorney general predicts the court will strike down the law.
