A new study in which researchers rapidly screened more than 11,000 bioactive molecules for activity against an antibiotic-resistant strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria identified multiple compounds with potent antimicrobial activity.
Cardiac researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have received a $2.1 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to pioneer studies in cardiovascular disease management and participate in a novel collaboration network to develop and implement research in this critically important field.
The proper role of health insurance should be to finance necessary and expensive medical services without the patient incurring devastating financial consequences. In a comparison of anticoagulants and stents for use with angioplasty following a heart attack, the anticoagulants abciximab and tirofiban had similar outcomes for some cardiac measures within 90 minutes after the procedure, while patients who received stents that released the drug sirolimus had a lower risk of major adverse cardiac events within 8 months than patients who received uncoated stents, according to a JAMA study being released early online March 30 to coincide with its presentation at the annual conference of the American College of Cardiology.
As part of its ongoing efforts to alleviate human suffering, the American relief organization, Life for Relief and Development (Life) in partnership with another humanitarian organization, will be providing two major shipments of children's medicines with a value of over two and half million dollars to hospitals and clinics in Pakistan.
