Nanoparticles can function as carriers for medicines to combat lung cancer: Working in a joint project at the NIM (Nanosystems Initiative Munich) Excellence Cluster, scientists from the Helmholtz Zentrum München and the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich have developed nanocarriers that site-selectively release medicines/drugs at the tumor site in human and mouse lungs.
The Lupus Foundation of America has launched a new nationwide education series, Lupus: Learn from the Experts, designed to provide people with lupus essential information about living with lupus from some of the world's leading lupus experts. The program is a series of teleconferences hosted by a lupus expert, and will cover a wide variety of topics important to people with lupus, including disability, kidney involvement, and clinical trials.
In a petition generated by MoveOn.org recently presented to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), advocates asked him to override seven Republican senators, led by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), who are blocking a vote on measures (HR 5501, S 2731) aimed at reauthorizing the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, CQ Today reports. More than 15,000 people have signed the petition, according to CQ Today (Graham-Silverman, CQ Today, 6/13).
Despite a common belief that peer pressure against high academic achievement is prevalent among black students, a new study conducted by researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University shows that that's not usually true.
Researchers from LSTM have investigated the possibility of utilizing the Polio network of 145 labs set up around the world to help tackle neglected tropical diseases which impact on the lives of about a billion of people.
