In a letter to the Editor published this Wednesday (31st May 2017), a group of Canadian researchers have disclosed how a sting of words coming from a notable doctor nearly 4 decades ago was the seed that led to a nationwide epidemic of misuse and abuse of opioid painkiller drugs such as Vicodin and OxyContin.
A new nationally agreed standard of care released today (Thursday) aims to reduce the tens of thousands of Australian lives put at risk each year by largely preventable blood clots, which kill four times more people than road accidents.
For years, America's childhood obesity crisis was viewed as an insurmountable problem, one that was too complicated and too entrenched to ever really solve. According to the conventional wisdom, healthy food simply didn't sell-;the demand wasn't there and higher profits were found elsewhere-;so it just wasn't worth the investment. But thanks to businesses across the country, today we are proving the conventional wisdom wrong.

Researchers are developing a tiny electronic sensor that can be embedded into bandages and help medics heal wounds by "listening" to them.
