With reports of increased prescription drug overdoses in emergency departments, the nation's emergency physicians are issuing a strong warning to parents about the dangers of abusing prescription drugs, which are now the second most abused drugs, after marijuana. Hospital visits caused by accidental and unintentional prescription drug overdoses went up 37 percent between 1999 and 2006, according to new data released by the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
Many women who regularly get checked for breast cancer and cervical cancer still don't go for a test that could save them from another big killer - colon cancer – according to new University of Michigan research. But perhaps their mammogram and Pap smear appointments could be used as "teachable moments" to help prompt them to get their colons checked, the researchers suggest.
Invatec, a comprehensive innovator of interventional products, today announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its Mo.Ma® Ultra Proximal Cerebral Protection Device for use during carotid artery stenting (CAS).
