Scientists from The Danish Stem Cell Center (DanStem) at the University of Copenhagen and Hagedorn Research Institute have gained new insight into the signaling paths that control the body's insulin production. This is important knowledge with respect to their final goal: the conversion of stem cells into insulin-producing beta cells that can be implanted into patients who need them.
Tobacco smoke is known to be the main risk factor for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), although non-smokers can get it too. The incidence among non-smokers is increasing in many countries. Now a group of Portuguese researchers has found significant differences in clinical particularities and survival between smokers and non-smokers who develop NSCLC.
A joint GA²LEN /EAACI report to be published in "Allergy" and available online on 8 February reviews new data on the treatment of allergies with older antihistamines compared with newer, second-generation H1-antihistamines. The research was funded by GA²LEN, an EU-funded Network of Excellence.
Cerenis Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing novel HDL therapies, today announced the completion of a Phase 1 study of the Company's CER-001 investigational product candidate to treat patients with acute coronary syndromes. Results of the completed study provide evidence that the investigational therapy was safe and well-tolerated at all dose levels evaluated, including those intended for future clinical development.
