American pharmaceutical manufacturer Alpharma Inc. has agreed to pay $42.5 million to resolve False Claims Act allegations in connection with the marketing of the morphine-based drug, Kadian, the Justice Department announced today. The settlement resolves allegations that, between January 1, 2000 and December 29, 2008, Alpharma paid health care providers to induce them to promote or prescribe Kadian, and made misrepresentations about the safety and efficacy of the drug, which is used to treat chronic moderate to severe pain.
Previous studies have explored the effect of periodontal treatment, irrespective of efficacy of treatment, in reducing infant prematurity. In a study titled "Risk of Preterm Birth Is Reduced with Successful Periodontal Treatment," lead researcher M. Jeffcott, and colleagues S. Parry and M. Sammel (all from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia) and G. Macones (Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri) determined whether a reduction in infant prematurity was associated with successful periodontal treatment.
Soligenix, Inc., a late-stage biopharmaceutical company, announced today the publication of an article in the June 2010 edition of Vaccine, which describes protection from mucosal and systemic ricin intoxication by intradermal administration of RiVax™, the Company's vaccine against ricin toxin.
Gilbert Hospital is holding a holiday gift giving and gift card drive to help support employees of the hospital as well as community residents who are in need this holiday season. In order to make the donation process easier for the many generous businesses, charities and individuals in the community, the drive will continue through December 23rd at the main entrance of the hospital.
Korean researchers have screened 48 FDA-approved drugs against SARS-CoV-2, and found that two, that are already FDA-approved for other illnesses, seem promising.
