New guidelines aim to reduce the prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), improve patient safety and prioritize current prevention efforts underway in hospitals. This drug resistant bacterium is a common source of patient morbidity and mortality in U.S. hospitals, causing nearly twice the number of deaths, significantly longer hospital stays and higher hospital costs than other forms of the bacteria.
The NIH on Tuesday announced a partnership with Wellcome Trust and the African Society for Human Genetics that will enable African researchers to "use the latest genetic and clinical technology to study common health problems, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and other diseases," VOA News reports (DeCapua, 6/22).
United Therapeutics Corporation announced today that it has withdrawn its Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) for Tyvaso (treprostinil sodium) 0.6 mg/ml nebuliser solution for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in the European Union.
Sectra and Philips have completed an agreement whereby Philips will sell Sectra PACS in Japan under a joint branding policy. The agreement revitalizes a partnership that ended in 2005, by which Sectra and Philips combined were among the market leaders for PACS.
For centuries, ginger root has been used as a folk remedy for a variety of ailments such as colds and upset stomachs. But now, researchers at the University of Georgia have found that daily ginger consumption also reduces muscle pain caused by exercise.
