XBiotech announced today enrollment of the first patient into its Phase III trial of Xilonix. The Pivotal study is designed to improve health and survival of late stage colorectal cancer patients with associated cachexia.
Fever of unknown origin is characterised by a fever of more than 3 weeks' duration, temperatures of more than 38.3°C and a failure to identify the origin of the fever. Underlying causes of these fevers are difficult to diagnose, but proposed causes are infections, cancers and collagen-vascular diseases.
Excruciating pain episodes, recurrent pneumonias, strokes, severe infections, chronic hemolytic anemia, and secondary pulmonary hypertension are common complications of sickle cell disease, a life-threatening inherited defect in blood that causes normally disc-shaped red blood cells to take on a sickle shape.
