A new study has found a possible link between the use of disinfectants in hospitals and the rise of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on patient wards.
It is a fact that has long baffled doctors: Cancer in the small intestine is quite rare, whereas colorectal cancer, a neighboring though much smaller organ, is one of the leading causes of cancer death for men and women. What is it about the colon that seems to "attract" cancer?
Parkinson's disease, a severely degenerative disease of the brain leading to tremors, muscle rigidity and finally immobility was until the 1990's believed to be due to environmental factors, lifestyle and a person's age. However, now scientists have discovered five more genes that influence its development.
The Department of Labor on Thursday released guidelines to employers on how to implement federal subsidies included in the economic stimulus package to help newly unemployed workers cover the cost of health insurance premiums under COBRA, the Detroit Free Press reports (Spangler, Detroit Free Press, 3/19).
