Understanding the link between diabetes and early dementia – as well as how diabetes relates to other causes of memory loss – is the focus of a new study at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and approximately 40 other medical institutions nationwide.
Using human brain cells, scientists at the Gladstone Institutes discovered the cause of-and a potential solution for-the primary genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease, a gene called apoE4.
Novus Scientific Pte. Ltd today announced the presentation of initial results of the First-in-Man study for TIGR™ Matrix Surgical Mesh. The study results were presented today at the American Hernia Society Meeting in Orlando, Florida by Dr. Fernando Ruiz-Jasbon, Consultant Surgeon at Kungsbacka Hospital / Gothenburg University, Sweden.
Bones are resilient and heal well after most fractures. But in cases of traumatic injury, in which big pieces of bone are missing, healing is much more difficult, if not impossible. These so-called "large segmental defects" are a major clinical problem, and orthopaedic surgeons struggle to treat them, especially among the military in places like Afghanistan.
There are many moments in the human experience when tragedy elicits not only compassion, but inspiration. When Mike Zhang heard the story of a mother whose son died of an opioid overdose just one month after the teenager's introduction to the drug at a party, the Virginia Tech researcher wanted to help.
