SAFC®, a member of the Sigma-Aldrich® Group, today announced a $6.25 million investment program to expand its Lenexa, KS, facility and create a global 'Center of Excellence' for the seamless upstream and downstream production of dry powder media and reagents. The investment, part of SAFC's worldwide facilities initiative, is designed to better serve the biopharmaceutical industry by creating 'Centers of Excellence' for manufacturing and supply chain optimization.
Prompted by an inquiry from GlobalPost, U.S. officials have said the Obama administration called for a $550 million reduction - an 11 percent cut - for its global AIDS program in its FY 2013 budget request because the "government didn't need more money because there has been nearly $1.5 billion stuck in the pipeline for 18 months or more," GlobalPost reports.
Chemotherapy used to shrink a tumor before surgery, called neoadjuvant chemotherapy, is becoming more common in many cancers, including stage II and III rectal cancer.
A surgically implanted neuroprosthesis—programmed to stimulate coordinated activity of hip, knee, and ankle muscles—has led to substantial improvement in walking speed and distance in a patient with limited mobility after a stroke, according to a single-patient study in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the official journal of the Association of Academic Physiatrists.
